Norm is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Born to a strong Democratic, union family, he learned the importance of political activism at an early age. Norm studied Political Science at the University of Iowa before beginning a career in politics.
After graduation Norm began working for the Iowa Democratic Party as a campaign manager for a targeted state house race. While his first campaign resulted in a loss, he has spent the next 15 years working across the country for campaigns and organizations at all levels, including campaigns for Congress, Senate, Governor and President. Norm also has significant Iowa caucus experience, he has worked on or run caucus programs in the last four presidential caucuses.
In 2006 Norm served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Chet Culver’s successful campaign for Iowa Governor. In that role he served on the strategic team that oversaw Culver’s political and field operation.
Prior to joining GPS Impact Norm served as the Executive Director of the Iowa Democratic Party. While at the IDP he managed the 2008 presidential precinct caucuses, which saw a record-breaking turnout among Democratic activists. Norm also oversaw the planning and implementation of the 2010 & 2012 coordinated campaigns.
Norm currently lives in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife Danielle and daughter Bryanna. They also have two cats (Dutchess and Max) and Beagle named Chowder.
FUN FACT: Every winter Norm builds the largest private Christmas light display in the Des Moines area. The 2013 show will have a run time of nearly one hour and will feature over 20,000 lights choreographed to music. You can learn more at lincolnplacelights.com.
