GPS managed digital strategy for Dr. Kim Schrier as she faced both a competitive primary and competitive general election, seeking to flip an open seat that had never been won by a Democratic candidate. Dr. Schrier defeated Dino Rossi 52.6% – 47.4%, becoming the first Democrat to ever represent Washington’s 8th District and the only female doctor in Congress.
GPS started work for Kim Schrier for Congress in August of 2017, and quickly went to work to expand her email list to boost online fundraising — by running acquisition ads, using strategic joint actions and list swaps and targeting known donor universes online with direct-to-donate ads. After Dr. Schrier won her primary, GPS helped coordinate a Washington State money-bomb to increase online fundraising and consolidate support.
As with many of our clients, GPS Impact built Dr. Kim Schrier’s online program by creating content that matched the candidate’s unique voice and by developing compelling content through text, graphics, and video to engage supporters.
While Dr. Schrier didn’t generate national attention from large progressive groups, GPS Impact was still able to make her one of the top campaigns in the entire country in terms of grassroots donations. In total, GPS helped Dr. Schrier raise $1,709,834 from online contributions $250 or less and and generated 46,574 individual donations. The email list started with several thousand names from personal contacts but ended 2018 with over 129,000 subscribed emails.
In addition, GPS’s voter contact program ran TV reach extension, persuasion ads, mobilization, and Google search ads, delivering over 13 million impressions to strategically targeted persuasion, mobilization and GOTV universes.
